My junior year of high school, I was able to take an American Government class that included a trip to Washington, D.C. through an organization called Close Up.
This past Memorial Day, I uploaded photos from our visit of Arlington National Cemetery. On this fourth of July, 2010, as we reflect on this great country of ours, it seemed fitting to finally get the rest of the photos from that trip uploaded and share some thoughts on the experience. (I had been waiting to touch up the photos a little, but I now realize that they’ll never make the Internet if I want them to look nice first.)
I set my 311 remaining D.C. photos to upload to my Flickr account. I left the computer as the photos began to upload. When I returned, I was taught that free Flickr accounts have a monthly bandwidth limit, and I had reached it after just 69 of the photos had uploaded.
So, consider this Part 1 of a…multiple part…series of Washington, D.C. photos. You can view my D.C. photo album HERE on Flickr. If you’re a Facebook friend of mine, you can see the same photos HERE on Facebook. I’ve titled all of the photos and tried to give some kind of comment on most of them. I’ll save my longer, general comments on the trip for a later part.
Photos in this Part 1 include (but are not limited to):
- Air and Space Museum
- National Museum of American History goodies like Abe Lincoln’s top hat, Kermit the Frog, Thomas Edison’s lightbulb, Star Wars droids, other TV/film props, etc.
- Jefferson Memorial
- Roosevelt Memorial
- Arlington National Cemetery

P.S. See, not all of my blog posts are super long.
